Piane di Mocogno

Piane di Mocogno

Modena Apennines, Piane di Mocogno - cross-country skiing

The management of the unused cross-country ski loop of Piane di Mocogno  was taken over in 2002 by the Sci Club A.S. Olimpic Lama and on 18 August 2002 the Centro Fondo Piana Amorotti was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Coppi Gaetano, national chairman of Fisi, and of the athletes of the A league Italian team.

The Centro Fondo Piana Amorotti is equipped with facilities such as male and female changing rooms, showers, waxing services and rooms. There is also a ticket and administration office. It features eight loops for a total length of 45 km of trails. All trails are on average ten metres wide and groomed for both techniques (classic and skating), for beginners and experts. As regards the classic techniques, there are double tracks so that skiers, especially couples, can ski side by side.

The cross-country skiing centre is equipped with a modern artificial snow system that covers a distance of 2.5 km.

The resort is about one hour from Modena along well kept roads.

The resort offers all comforts: a few meters from the Centro Fondo there are hotels, restaurants, a large car park, and equipment hire points.

The offer is completed by four downhill runs, two magic carpets, baby park and sledge run.

Thanks to the characteristics of the territory, the structure of the trails, the services and facilities offered, Piane di Mocogno is one of the best cross-country skiing resorts in the Apennines.

The As Olimpic Lama sport association also developed a new discipline three years ago for which Piane di Mocogno has become the resort of reference in the Emilian Apennines: snow rackets

A national snow racket competition has been held here in the last two years and there are over 25 kilometres of trails. There’s an active programme of activities available and around ten outings have been planned for this season. The landscape ranges from beech woods to large plateaus and beautiful pinewoods. Spectacular night excursions are also organised that end with dinner in a local mountain lodge with typical crescentine and gnocco fritto.
